A quick word of warning for those of you starting new pupils who have applied for a first provisional allowing them to drive a car at age 16 (if they receive higher rate mobility component of DLA/PIP). Check the "from date" for car (category B) carefully, I have recently had a number of cases where DVLA have issued incorrect licences to people who have correctly applied for car entitlement at 16 - the licence issued each time only gave entitlement for category AM & A1 (mopeds & low power motorcycles) from age 16, category B entitlement was only permitted from 17th birthday. In all 3 cases the box on the application form "To drive a car at 16 because I am getting Disability Living Allowance (mobility component) at the higher rate" had been ticked and in 2 cases proof of the DLA award had been sent to DVLA when requested but in each case the licence issued was incorrect. Wise to to check the "from date" to make sure before booking the first lesson and wasting a journey and the lesson slot. If any of you have experienced this type of DVLA error can you let me know so that I can compile a list and contact DVLA to try to get the problem sorted
